Jérôme Leleu

Hi,

I'm Jérôme Leleu, a passionate developer… and a big maths fan.

It all started in late 2024, when I was helping my son, then in his final year of high school, with his homework. To check a calculation or understand a step, nothing really worked for me:

  • powerful software, like Matlab or Maple, isn't made for high school students and doesn't show the steps
  • AI tools are very easy to use, but slow, not always reliable, and energy-hungry
  • online solvers do show the steps… as long as you pay.

So I wrote my own. Explain MAths, EMA to its friends, is free, fast, details every step and understands questions asked in your own words.

Ponpon, Jérôme's dog

And Ponpon, the mascot

Developing EMA was no easy task, and during my long evenings of coding, my faithful Ponpon never left my side: always there, right next to me, deep in very long naps.

Gone too soon on October 31, 2025, he still watches over EMA, whose mascot he has become.

And the part of EMA that reads your questions written in everyday language bears his name: PONPOM, for Programme Of Natural Parsing Of Mathematics.
